LISTSERV 15.5 - IRISHLAW Archives: "As Antoin points out, the High Court has recognised the right of an NGO to
institute and maintain proceedings on behalf of certain vulnerable groups, as
in the IPRT case in respect of prisoners with psychiatric difficulties.
However, this decision is the subject of an appeal by the State so we will have
to await the Supreme Court's determination on the existence of such right in
Irish law.
I understand FLAC are also involved in a number of activities involving public
interest advocacy, including their Public Interest Law Network and Public
Interest Litigation. More information on their activites can be found at
http://www.flac.ie/publicinterest/publicinterestlitigation.html which includes
details of litigation taken by FLAC in public interest cases, including a
judicial review in respect of the exclusion of members of the deaf community
from jury service"AS I SAID MS.SYNON LOOK CLOSER TO HOME .
